- "Can you show me a recent session using this setup?" — If they're a regular racer, they should have footage from the past few weeks. If they can't or won't, that's a warning flag.
- "What's your return or cancellation policy if it arrives damaged or doesn't work as described?" — Reputable sellers will offer a return window or inspection period. No policy, no safety net.
- "Are there any quirks, maintenance needs, or known issues I should know about?" — Open-ended questions often surface the details they'd rather not mention upfront but you'll discover yourself anyway.
Price Reality Check
Know the secondhand market value before you bid. A used MOZA R9 in good condition typically sells for ~55–70% of retail. An older R5 might be ~40–50%. Load-cell pedals drop to ~50–65% depending on condition and age. If a seller is asking 85% of new retail for used gear, they're counting on you not knowing better. Use that as a signal to ask harder questions or look elsewhere.
One more reality: buying used saves money but trades certainty for risk. If you need a wheel to arrive functional and ready to race this weekend, new is worth the premium.
